The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (DPH) African American Infant and Maternal Mortality Prevention Initiative (AAIMM) Doula Program pairs Black pregnant individuals with Black doulas who provide each client with prenatal, labor and delivery, and postpartum education, support, and advocacy, in an effort to reduce maternal stress and improve maternal satisfaction and birth outcomes. Funded by a California Home Visiting Program (CHVP) grant, AAIMM doulas will promote joyous births by serving pregnant people with dignity and respect, ensuring mom and baby receive optimal clinical care, and providing resources and support for infant and maternal well-being.
