About the position
The Riverside Transit Agency is recruiting for \"B\" Mechanic positions in the Maintenance Department. The \"B\" Mechanic will perform periodic and emergency maintenance procedures on all Agency vehicles assigned (cars, vans, trucks, and buses), including but not limited to inspections, repair of mechanical defects and failures as described under Essential Duties/Responsibilities. Please be advised that this may involve assignment at either our Riverside or Hemet locations. Applicants must be available to work 7 days per week, including holidays and all shifts.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and repair various components that include hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic systems
- Assisting \"A\" Mechanic with engine overhauls, transmission overhauls and differential rebuilding and other related overhauls
- Replacement of various major vehicle components (A/C compressors, air compressors, starters, generators, etc)
- Operate Agency vehicles as necessary (non-revenue service)
- Respond to road calls as necessary
- Maintaining proper maintenance and inventory records
- Assist in the in-service training of \"C\" Mechanics and Servicers
- Perform other related tasks as required.
Requirements
- Graduation from high school or its equivalent
- At least two (2) years experience in the maintenance of heavy-duty equipment or buses.
- Must possess a valid non-restricted California driver's license
- Able to obtain a Class B license and medical certificate.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- A current valid non-restricted Class C Driver's License is required.
- Obtain an official DMV driving history printout from a branch of the DMV printout (issued not more than 30 days prior to date of application) must be provided with the application.
- The DMV driving history must be clear of suspensions for any reason within the past five (5) years and have no more than three (3) points within the past five (5) years, and no two (2) point violations.
- No accidents which applicant contributed to cause within 3 years from your application date
- Have appeared in court as required
- Will be required to pass job related skills test(s).
- Testing may include: Written test(s), Oral test(s), Practical test(s)
- Past year performance record will be reviewed: Discipline other than attendance & accidents - only 1 written warning in last year.
- Must have zero additional disciplinary actions, i.e. no: Further Written Warnings, Final Warnings, Suspension
- Must have no more than 1 Late Arrival within the last 12 months.
- Must have no more than 1 Attendance Point in the last year.
- Preventable Accidents - only 1 written warning within the last year.
- Performance Appraisal ratings must be at or above \"Meets Standards.\"
- Applications who request to transfer to a different department will be eligible to do so after 1 year of service.
- Advancement will be determined by qualification (as listed above) or by seniority in cases where qualification is deemed equal.
- Applications will be evaluated and only qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the selection process which may include: written exam (pass/fail), performance exam (pass/fail) and an oral interview (100%).
- The examinations will be used to assess the applicant's knowledge, skills and abilities as they relate to the position.
