This position is responsible for the safe, accurate, and compliant application of materials in accordance with product labels, Safety Data Sheets, company policies, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The Spray Technician will operate a company vehicle and spray equipment, complete application records, track time and materials, and help maintain equipment in clean, safe, and reliable condition.
Work sites may include commercial properties, multifamily communities, resorts, retail centers, public rights-of-way, and other assigned locations.
Duties And Essential Job Functions
- Apply pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, and related products according to label requirements, company standards, and industry best practices.
- Accurately mix materials, calculate application rates, measure treatment areas, and document product use.
- Safely operate company trucks and spray equipment.
- Clean, calibrate, maintain, and organize spray equipment and related tools.
- Complete accurate application records, reports, timekeeping, job-costing, and production documentation.
- Use company-issued mobile devices, including phones or tablets, to record time worked and complete required documentation.
- Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, product labels, SDS instructions, and company policies.
- Report incidents, accidents, equipment issues, and unsafe conditions promptly.
- Participate in continuing education and training to maintain certifications and improve technical knowledge.
- Work overtime as required based on operational needs.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Ability to read, understand, and follow pesticide and fertilizer labels and Safety Data Sheets.
- Basic knowledge of common Southern California plants, trees, pests, and plant disease issues.
- Ability to perform basic math for application rates, mix quantities, and treatment areas.
- Ability to use handheld electronic devices for timekeeping, documentation, and job reporting.
- Ability to communicate professionally with clients, residents, vendors, and team members.
- Proficient reading and writing skills in English.
- Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions.
- Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.
Required Licenses And Certifications
- Valid California driver’s license and auto insurance.
- California Department of Pesticide Regulation QAC, or QAL, is highly preferred.
- Candidates who do not currently hold a QAC or QAL may be considered, but must be able to obtain the required certification or license within one year of employment.
Education And Experiance
- High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED).
- Minimum 2 years of turf and ornamental chemical application experience is preferred, but not required.
Physical Requirements
- This position requires regular physical outdoor work, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, and working on uneven or sloped terrain.
- Applicants must be able to safely lift, carry, and handle materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. The role also requires getting in and out of vehicles throughout the day and wearing required personal protective equipment.
- Must be able to wear all personal protective equipment according to company Safety Health and Environmental Policies, Industry Related ANSI Safety Requirements and OSHA Regulations.
Working Considitions
Working conditions are outdoors with exposure to the following: Hot and cold temperatures, sudden changes in temperatures, varying levels of noise, slippery surfaces, rain, dust/dirt, fumes, wind, uneven ground and landscaped slopes.
Equipment And Machiary
- Basic hand tools, ladders, gas/diesel powered trucks, electric and manual hose reels, electric diaphragm pumps, gas diaphragm pumps, closed systems, basic spraying and chemical application equipment.

The ideal candidate is a dependable, detail-oriented Spray Technician with experience applying turf and ornamental pesticides and fertilizers in commercial landscape environments. This person understands the importance of safe, accurate, and compliant chemical application; can follow product labels, SDS requirements, and company procedures; and is comfortable using a company vehicle, spray equipment, and electronic handheld devices for timekeeping and documentation.
