Position Description

About The Role

At Bronx Arts, we see teaching as an art form. We are seeking a dynamic Special Education Teacher to serve in an ICT (Integrated Co-Teaching) setting, partnering closely with general education teachers to deliver rigorous, engaging instruction across content areas.

In this role, you will ensure that students with IEPs are not only supported—but challenged, empowered, and set up to thrive academically and socially. This position blends strong instruction, deep collaboration, and a clear commitment to compliance and high expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Co-plan and co-teach standards-aligned, high-quality instruction across subjects
  • Differentiate instruction and provide targeted supports to meet diverse learning needs
  • Develop and implement IEP goals, accommodations, and modifications with fidelity
  • Write and submit clear lesson plans and weekly instructional overviews
  • Track student progress and use data to adjust instruction and supports
  • Work closely with the SPED Coordinator/Director of Student Support to complete IEP progress reports and ensure compliance
  • Participate in IEP meetings and collaborate with the Committee on Special Education (CSE)
  • Build a structured, inclusive, high-expectations classroom culture
  • Maintain a beautiful, organized classroom that reflects student learning, including regularly updated bulletin boards and displays
  • Collaborate closely with arts teachers to plan and support school-based events, including performances, art exhibits, and science fairs, and actively participate in these events, including those that take place beyond the school day
  • Communicate regularly with families, including parent-teacher conferences
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, service providers, and school leadership
  • Participate in professional development and coaching cycles

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong understanding of special education best practices and inclusive instruction
  • Ability to co-teach effectively and collaborate with multiple stakeholders
  • Strong instructional planning and execution
  • Excellent writing skills (lesson planning, IEP documentation, communication)
  • Proficiency with instructional technology and data tracking tools
  • Organized, proactive, and solutions-driven
  • Growth mindset and openness to feedback
  • Collaborative team player
  • Passion for the arts and belief in creativity as a driver of student success

Qualifications

  • New York State Certification in Special Education (required)
  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s preferred)
  • Experience in an ICT or inclusive classroom setting preferred
  • Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus
  • Clearance for fingerprinting and criminal background check required

Compensation

$67,000 to $98,000 annually

Benefits

  • 403(b) retirement plan, with up to 3% employer match after one year of service
  • Health Insurance, with free options available for self and children
  • Dental and Vision Insurance
  • Life, Short and Long Term Disability Insurance
  • Flexible Spending Account
