Position: Groundskeeper/Maintenance A #36151
Position: Groundskeeper/Maintenance A
Location: Christina School District – location to be determined
Reports To: Facilities Manager
Start Date: Mutually Agreed
Closing Date: July 12, 2026
Basic Function: Perform tasks related to maintaining and improving the facility grounds
Duties
- Plant, trim, mow, weed, spray, fertilize, sweep, rake, cultivate, dig, water, shovel or plow snow, remove ice, spread salt, and perform related functions under the direction of the crew leader
- Remove and trim small trees, prune, and perform stump grinding
- Mulch playgrounds and flower beds
- Paint curbs and parking spaces as needed
- Repair minor potholes and asphalt as required
- Operate and maintain various types of equipment, including power mowers, saws, edgers, and shears
- Operate light or medium‑weight trucks to pick up and deliver materials and supplies
- Operate light, medium, or heavy tractors and attachments used to maintain grounds as needed
- Perform pre‑check on grounds trucks and equipment
- Prepare and maintain athletic fields
- Measure, mark, layout, and line athletic fields according to prints and diagrams
- Assist in snow removal, including parking lot plowing when needed
- Work as directed by the Facilities Manager
- Remain up‑to‑date with current practices related to job functions
- Work with co‑workers and customers in an appropriate and professional manner
- Cooperate with other department personnel to complete assigned tasks
- Display initiative and dependability when working alone or in groups
- Perform all duties safely and in accordance with department policies and procedures
- Attend department meetings as required
- Participate in fire and disaster programs as directed
- Assist other District Maintenance personnel when needed or during slow grounds seasons
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Same qualifications as a Custodian
- Ability to use grounds maintenance tools and equipment as required
- Valid Class B driver’s license
- Willingness and ability to become certified in grounds management, sports turf management, arboriculture, and/or pesticide application
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to maintain effective relationships with supervisors and fellow employees
- Ability to follow and apply safety rules and regulations for assignments and equipment used
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds with assistance
- Willingness to be trained as required
- Three years’ experience in grounds maintenance
- Computer knowledge and ability, or commitment to gain knowledge and experience using email, internet, word processing, and spreadsheets
