Salary Support

Salary Scale Grade S07: $22.50 per hour

Under the Fair Labor and Standards Act this position is non-exempt from overtime. Actual salary placement will be in accordance with the salary procedures of the Frederick County Public School System. Please see linked salary scale for the full range.

Role

Under direction, performs skilled work in the preparation, painting, finishing, and maintaining of a wide variety of interior and exterior surfaces and structures. Work in this class requires knowledge of the methods and tools of the painting trade and of the refinishing practices and procedures for all types of surfaces. Nature of work involves frequent travel to worksites, and some exposure to accident and injury hazards.

Essential Functions

Reporting to the Painter Foreman, this position performs the following duties:

  • Attendance: Regular attendance and punctuality is an essential function to perform this job because employees of this classification work as part of a team, use on-site equipment, and address on-site facility needs.
  • Staff Development: Regular and predictable attendance and participation in meetings and training is an essential function to perform this job to safeguard against occupational hazards.
  • Customer Service: Maintains professional relations throughout the organization. Provides exceptional customer service.
  • Leadership: Supports other members of the Painting Team through reliable attendance and quality and quantity of work.
  • Quality Assurance: Meets or exceeds established quality assurance and control standards, or normal trade standards.
  • Problem Solving: Through training, experience, and professional judgment avoids, or identifies and resolves, issues that can affect the safety and productivity of the paint team.

Job Class Specific

  • Estimates time and materials required, and ensures that adequate supplies are on hand to perform daily tasks.
  • Obtains supplies independently, and under direction of the Foreman, in compliance with FCPS policies.
  • Restores building surfaces before applying finish, including caulking, glazing, and minor woodwork or drywall repair.
  • Prepares building surfaces and applies finish according to finish-manufacturers instruction and best practices.
  • Operates, inspects, cleans, and maintains equipment, including sprayers, lifts, and personal protective equipment.
  • Erects and uses scaffolding, rigging, and ladders in a manner consistent with safety regulations and best practices.
  • Evaluates worksite conditions, and protects self and others from known or suspected hazards, such as lead paint.
  • Performs work and handles materials, in a manner that avoids risk to building occupants and the environment.
  • Safely labels and stores all materials.
  • Uses SchoolDude to process work orders, including the recording of labor and material costs.
  • Consults with building staff to schedule and execute work with minimal interference to instruction.
  • Performs related work as required.

Required Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of the methods, tools and supplies used in repairing and preparing surfaces to receive finish, and to apply finishes using industry best practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of surface preparers and finishes including their properties, proper application, and safe handling.
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards of the trade and precautionary measures taken to mitigate hazards.
  • Ability to make estimates of time and material requirements on paint projects.
  • Use computers and electronic-mail effectively and efficiently in accordance with BOE policies.
  • Use SchoolDude to process work orders and electronically capture labor and material costs.

Education/Training/Experience

  • High School or GED diploma required.
  • Minimum one (1) year paid experience in commercial painting.

Certification/License

  • Valid drivers license, and the ability to operate a vehicle in accordance with Board of Education policies.
  • Must hold and retain the EPA Renovation, Repair and Paint Certification. If hired without this Certification, must be able to obtain within the first twelve (12) months of hire.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Able to walk, sit or stand for prolonged periods.
