Job Title: Journeyman Electrician

Job Description

This role focuses on commercial electrical work, including rough-in installation, conduit and raceway systems, switchgear and terminations, panel wiring, and troubleshooting across high-rise and deck projects in New York City. The position requires a seasoned electrician who can independently interpret rough-in prints, complete complex installations, and ensure safe, code-compliant electrical systems on active construction sites.

Responsibilities

  • Perform rough-in electrical work, including layout, installation, and preparation of wiring and devices according to project plans and rough-in prints.
  • Read and interpret electrical rough-in prints and construction drawings to plan and execute work accurately and efficiently.
  • Install conduit systems, including bending and routing conduit for various applications such as risers, raceways, and deck work.
  • Work with switchgear, including installing, wiring, and performing terminations on switchgear and related equipment.
  • Run BX and MC cable, including pulling, routing, and securing cable for commercial electrical installations.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems, panels, and circuits to identify issues and perform corrective repairs and adjustments.
  • Wire electrical panels, including organizing circuits, making terminations, and ensuring neat, code-compliant installations.
  • Install electrical raceways, including Smurf tube and other raceway types, particularly in deck and high-rise environments.
  • Perform riser work, including installing and securing electric risers and conduit risers throughout multi-story structures.
  • Install Kindorf racks and other support structures for service equipment, conduit, and wiring systems.
  • Pull service wire and feeder conductors, ensuring proper routing, support, and termination for service equipment.
  • Install outlets, switches, boxes, panels, and devices, including cutting in, mounting, wiring, and securing components.
  • Splice cable and conductors safely and correctly, using appropriate connectors and methods for long-lasting, reliable connections.
  • Perform terminations on a wide range of electrical equipment, panels, and devices, ensuring tight, accurate, and labeled connections.
  • Execute deck work and high-rise deck work, including electrical layout, conduit placement, and raceway installation in slab and deck environments.
  • Use pipe bending techniques to bend conduit accurately for complex runs, offsets, and transitions as required by the layout.
  • Conduct service work as needed, including troubleshooting, repairs, and modifications to existing electrical systems.
  • Maintain all required personal protective equipment (PPE), tools, and certifications on site at all times and follow all site safety protocols.
  • Sign in and out daily with the foreperson, documenting time in and time out as required by site procedures.
  • Demonstrate strong technical ability in pipe work, panel wiring, and three-way switch wiring, meeting quality and productivity expectations.
  • Work independently with confidence while maintaining a positive attitude and efficient work pace to meet project deadlines.

Essential Skills

  • At least 8 years of commercial electrical experience, with a strong background in large-scale and high-rise projects.
  • Proficiency in rough-in electrical work, including reading and interpreting rough-in prints and construction drawings.
  • Advanced skills in conduit installation and pipe bending, including complex bends and layouts for risers, raceways, and deck work.
  • Hands-on experience with switchgear installation, wiring, and terminations in commercial environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical systems, panels, and circuits, with the ability to diagnose and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Expertise in wiring electrical panels, including organizing circuits and performing neat, code-compliant terminations.
  • Proficiency in installing and working with electrical raceways, including Smurf tube and other raceway types.
  • Experience with riser work, including installing conduit risers and electric risers across multiple floors.
  • Ability to install Kindorf racks and similar support systems for conduit and service equipment.
  • Skill in pulling and installing service wire, BX cable, and MC cable for commercial installations.
  • Competence in installing outlets, switches, devices, boxes, and panels, including splicing cable and making terminations.
  • Strong understanding of three-way switch wiring and complex switching arrangements.
  • SST 10-hour certification.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • Lift certification for operating applicable lifting equipment on site.
  • Ability to maintain required PPE and tools and adhere to all safety and site compliance requirements.
