The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Anchorage International Airport, is looking for an Equipment Operator Journey 2 to help us Keep Alaska Moving!
Under general supervision, the Equipment Operator professionally operates all heavy equipment associated with the construction and maintenance of Anchorage International Airport (ANC). Equipment types include motor graders, loaders, dump trucks, airport snow removal machines, roller compactors, sand spreaders, backhoes, and tractor‑trailer combinations.
The operator will work on the airfield and airport property, maintaining safe and efficient equipment operation in dynamic conditions, including rapid snow/ice events. Daily duties include removing snow from airfield surfaces, parking lots, roadways, and sidewalks; cleaning equipment; performing emergency concrete and asphalt repair; brush and tree removal; and other labor‑intensive tasks.
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently under changing environmental conditions.
- Communicate clearly on company and air‑to‑ground radios.
- Conduct snow removal, road maintenance, and emergency repairs on the airport property.
- Clean and maintain equipment.
- Assist with security inspections, lighting system maintenance, and vegetation clearance.
Qualifications & Core Competencies

- Eligible for overtime and shift differential.
Requirements & Certifications
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – Class A required at time of hire.
- N‑Tanker endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of hire.
- Eligibility for an airport identification badge in accordance with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations (49 CFR 1542) with fingerprinting and background check.
- Compliance with DOT&PF drug and alcohol policy; unable to perform duties until a pre‑employment drug test is cleared.
