Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) – School-Based

We are currently seeking a dedicated Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) for a school-based position for the 2026–2027 school year. Join a team that values integrity, professionalism, and your personal and professional growth while helping students reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
Student Services & Intervention
- Provide direct physical therapy services to students under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist in accordance with established treatment plans and IEPs
- Assist students in improving mobility, balance, strength, endurance, coordination, and functional participation within the educational setting
- Implement therapeutic activities and interventions designed to support student access and success in school environments
- Assist with positioning, transfers, gait training, and the use of adaptive equipment and mobility devices
- Monitor student progress and communicate observations and recommendations to the supervising Physical Therapist
- Support students in achieving educationally relevant physical therapy goals
Collaboration & Consultation
- Collaborate with Physical Therapists, educators, administrators, and related service providers to support student success
- Assist in implementing therapeutic recommendations within classrooms and school settings
- Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings as requested by the supervising Physical Therapist
- Provide guidance to staff and families regarding therapeutic strategies, positioning, mobility, and equipment use as directed by the supervising Physical Therapist
- Maintain positive and professional relationships with students, families, and school personnel
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including service logs, treatment notes, progress updates, and Medicaid billing documentation when applicable
- Adhere to Arkansas regulations, district policies, and professional practice standards
- Travel between assigned school sites as needed
- Participate in professional development and continuing education activities
- Collaborate with educational teams and families to support student achievement and independence
- Perform other duties as assigned by district administration and supervising Physical Therapist
Requirements
- Associate Degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
- Current Arkansas Physical Therapist Assistant License issued by the Arkansas State Medical Board
- Ability to work under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist
- Ability to meet all district employment requirements, including background screening
- Ability to travel between assigned school sites as needed
- Experience working with pediatric populations preferred
- School-based experience preferred but not required
Skills & Qualifications
- Knowledge of pediatric and school-based physical therapy practices
- Ability to effectively implement treatment plans and therapeutic interventions
- Familiarity with adaptive equipment, mobility devices, and positioning techniques
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and school staff
- Strong organizational, documentation, and time-management abilities
- Commitment to student-centered care and educational success
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Ability to lift, transfer, position, and assist students with physical needs (up to 50 lbs occasionally)
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and floor-level activities
- Use of adaptive, mobility, and therapeutic equipment
- Work across classrooms, therapy spaces, playgrounds, gymnasiums, and other educational environments
- Ability to safely assist with transfers, mobility training, and positioning activities throughout the school day
