A groundskeeper maintains the aesthetic appeal, safety, and functionality of outdoor spaces, including lawns, gardens, and athletic fields. Key responsibilities include mowing, planting, trimming, and fertilizing; operating equipment like mowers and tractors; and performing maintenance tasks such as irrigation repair and snow removal.

Core Responsibilities

• Landscaping & Horticulture: Planting trees, shrubs, flowers, and grass; weeding, pruning, and mulching garden beds.
• Turf Maintenance: Mowing, edging, aeration, and fertilization of lawns and athletic fields.
• Property Upkeep: Removing litter, leaves, and debris to ensure clean walkways, parking lots, and common areas.
• Equipment Operation: Using hand tools and heavy machinery, such as tractors, mowers, chainsaws, leaf blowers, and snowblowers.
• Irrigation Maintenance: Installing, repairing, and monitoring sprinkler systems.
• Safety & Repairs: Inspecting grounds for hazards, maintaining outdoor furniture, and clearing snow/ice.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Physical Stamina: Ability to perform heavy manual labor, including bending, lifting, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Equipment Proficiency: Knowledge of how to safely operate and maintain power tools and landscaping machinery.
• Knowledge of Horticulture: Familiarity with plant care, soil preparation, and pest control techniques.
• Valid Driver's License: Frequently required for transporting equipment and materials.

Work Environment

Groundskeepers often work for schools, parks, golf courses, and residential properties. The job is labor-intensive, requiring extensive time outdoors.
