Village West Veterinary is looking for a Veterinary Assistant to join us as part of the Thrive Pet Healthcare community.
As a Vet Assistant you'll play an important role in pets' lives by providing end-to-end care for our precious patients. Your life-changing work will range from the hands-on care of facilitating outpatient treatments and performing laboratory tests, to support services including admitting and discharging patients.
Knowledge:
Must have a minimum of 1 year experience as a Veterinary Assistant
The ability to maintain a positive work environment
The ability to work collectively with team members.
Effective interpersonal communication skills.
Effective in Multi-Tasking (prioritizing and accomplishing tasks)
Excellent verbal and written communication
Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (functions in which the individual can perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation) Provide patient care under the direction of a DVM or Hospital Leadership.
Assist other members on the medical team with restraining, handling, and lifting of animals
Process and Submit Lab work, both in-house labs and Laboratory partners
Clean, wrap, and sterilize surgical instruments and surgical supplies (gowns, towels, etc.)
Facility maintenance of kennels, floors, trash, restrooms, laundry, etc.)
The ability to prepare and explain medications with clients.
Stock supplies in treatment area, exam rooms, surgical suite and pharmacy
Provide supportive care to hospitalized patients as directed by a veterinary technician or attending veterinarian (such as monitoring patient's vitals, any needed medication administration, Providing clean kennels and litter pans, walking patients as needed)
Other duties assigned such as Reception tasks that include: answering phones, scheduling appointments, Client check-out process, client communication related to patient follow up or laboratory results.
Proficient with blood draws and IV catheter placements.
Review medical records, estimates or discharge instructions with clients
Record all pertinent medical, client and case related information in the patient record accurately with appropriate grammar, terms and accurate information.
Physical Duties and Responsibilities: Lift and/or carry up to 40lbs from the floor level and above, at least several times during the day.
The ability to stand, walk, sit, crawl, stoop, bend, twist, kneel, and crouch for extended periods of time.
The ability to restrain all sizes of pets on the floor and on an exam table, showing a fear free approach while handling.
Potential exposure to anesthetic gases, fumes, and radiation with proper PPE and protective knowledge.
Machine Maintenance on all laboratory equipment and monthly maintenance throughout the clinic.
Reassure nervous clients that their pet will be well taken care of by our staff.
Be proficient in a variety of skills ranging from but not limited to: laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, surgery, dental and nursing skills.
