We're seeking a Mechanical Engineer III to support the Package Sorting Technology Group , where you'll work on the design, enhancement, modernization, and reliability of automated mail and package processing equipment used across the USPS network.
This is an exciting opportunity to apply your mechanical design expertise to mission-critical systems that impact millions of deliveries every day.
What You'll Do
As a Mechanical Engineer III, you will:
Transform redlined "From-To" markups into detailed engineering designs and documentation
Develop creative solutions for equipment improvements, modernization initiatives, and end-of-life component replacements
Design, model, and detail mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD software
Create and maintain 2D engineering drawings and documentation utilizing GD&T standards
Analyze production and material handling equipment to improve performance, reliability, and maintainability
Support testing, fabrication, installation, and implementation of mechanical design solutions
Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and project stakeholders to deliver innovative engineering solutions
Contribute to projects that improve operational efficiency across USPS package sorting facilities nationwide
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
Minimum of 4 years of professional mechanical engineering experience
Experience independently completing:
3D modeling
2D drawing creation and detailing
Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
Proficiency with mechanical CAD/solid modeling software
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
Strong verbal and written communication abilities
Preferred Experience
Material handling systems
Automated equipment or package processing systems
Manufacturing or production equipment design
Equipment modernization and lifecycle replacement projects

Additional Information
Location: Merrifield, VA
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
Occasional evening or weekend support may be required
Travel: Less than 10%
