Broad Statement of Responsibilities

The Occupational Therapist (OT) provides school-based OT services, including evaluation, services, IEP development and implementation, eligibility recommendations, and documentation. The OT delivers high-quality, student-centered services, prioritizing the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE), utilizing Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), and promoting student independence and access to learning.

Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive evaluations to determine eligibility and identify student needs in compliance with state and federal guidelines.

Use consistent, data-driven evaluation tools and multiple sources of data to develop measurable goals.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement high-quality IEPs aligned to student needs and disability characteristics.

Determine appropriate service delivery models (direct and/or consultative), frequency, and intensity based on student data.

Implement OT services within an MTSS framework and monitor student progress to inform instructional decisions.

Incorporate transition evaluations and support student-centered transition planning aligned to postsecondary goals.

Support student progress along the Empower U Continuum and collaborate with vocational rehabilitation and transition partners.

Promote student regulation, engagement, and independence through proactive, relationship-centered strategies.

Identify and implement accommodations, modifications, assistive technology, and adaptive equipment to support access to curriculum in the LRE.

Provide training and consultation to staff and families on strategies, supports, and assistive technology.

Participate in team meetings to review progress and support decisions regarding LRE placement and services.

Communicate effectively with staff, families, and administrators regarding student progress and needs.

Engage in ongoing professional learning to improve outcomes for students.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

Degree in Occupational Therapy and current, full licensure through the Michigan's Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).

Knowledge of OT practices, evaluation tools and AT (low- to high-tech).

Understanding of MTSS, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and evidence-based practices.

Knowledge of trauma-informed care, de-escalation and restorative practices.

Ability to use data systems to inform decision-making and instructional planning.

Strong collaboration, communication, and consultation skills across multidisciplinary teams.

Ability to clearly articulate the role of OT within the evaluation and IEP process.

Must pass a criminal background check in accordance with School Safety Legislation.
