General Summary

Under general supervision instructions students in business concepts such as understanding the American business system and its place in the nation's economy, employability skills, and use of relevant technology as it relates to the 21st century business environment. Assists in other school programs as assigned.

Essential Functions

  • Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One towards increased outcomes for students.
  • Interacts, communicates and collaborates with all stakeholders effectively.
  • Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive working and learning environment.
  • Operates general office and technology equipment needed for daily activities.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding all employee and student information.
  • Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Requests and maintains materials needed for daily responsibilities and essential functions; provides for safe storage and proper use of all tools, equipment and materials.
  • Demonstrates a variety of 21st century teaching skills to foster independent, creative, critical thinkers and problem solvers.
  • Designs and facilitates engaging, high level, sophisticated learning experiences and applications appropriate to prepare students for a 21st century global, knowledge-based economy.
  • Teaches concepts and skills in keyboarding, office procedures, merchandising, business communications, image editing, multimedia, business law, accounting, marketing and other basic business concepts.
  • Prepares various records and forms such as lesson plans, daily and weekly activity plans, assessments, material requisitions, competency forms, discipline reports, etc.
  • Organizes classroom and laboratory areas for daily instruction.
  • Demonstrates and evaluates the effectiveness of both formative and summative assessments; analyzes assessment data in relation to student learning and develops instructional strategies to close the learning and performance gap; evaluates contributions in group projects.
  • Effectively uses personal computing devices and software applications for the management of student records, instructional efficiency, and professional development.
  • Develops students' creative and practical problem-solving skills related to relevant materials and processes of the industry.
  • Instructs and coaches students in the rudiments of obtaining and retaining a job; stays informed of current entry job requirements; completes job references for students when requested.
  • Recruits professionals in the business field to serve on the annual advisory committee; meets semi-annually to solicit input from community partners regarding current issues and employment opportunities.
  • Meets with parents, administrators and school counselors as needed to discuss student performance, activities, etc.; issues reports to inform parents of students' progress in accordance with school board policy.
  • Actively serves as a Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) advisor in preparing students for competition and leadership opportunities; chaperones trips to conferences and events.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

Responsible for effective supervision of students in a variety of classroom and school situations. Responsible for classroom materials and supplies budget (if applicable). Responsible for maintenance and inventory of equipment; responsible for reporting equipment malfunctions.
