Position Description Job Summary: Fuel Truck Drivers at Palmetto Corp are expected to deliver fuel, Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), and other materials to various local commercial and residential construction job sites. A person in this position will drive to the company’s plant to conduct a pre-trip inspection, communicate and confirm type and quantity of fuel, load fuel into the holding tank, and drive to the jobsite safely for delivery. Once arrived, the Fuel Truck Driver will need to connect the hose to valve, begin pumping, and maintain accurate records on amount delivered/distributed. Once completed with the day, Fuel Truck Drivers are also responsible for the safe cleaning of the vehicle to ensure no flammable materials remain and no safety violations arise. Drivers must possess Hazmat & Tanker endorsements required by the State of South Carolina to operate this type of truck.
Job Duties
- Transport fuel, DEF, and other liquids and/or materials to various jobsites.
- Connect hose to fuel tanks, open valves, and assist crews with the loading and unloading of the materials.
- Keep and maintain accurate records on the types and weights of fuel hauled for inspections through daily paperwork.
- Maintain cleanliness of truck and ancillary parts before and after every shift.
- Communicate (verbal and written) effectively with foreman and crewmembers.
- Complete Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) daily to include notes on safety, repair, and preventative maintenance needs.
- Maintain a safe work environment by identifying safety hazards both on the road and the jobsite.
- Manage the control, mitigation, and cleanup of any fuel release.
- Follow all safety protocols and adhere to DOT regulations.
- Understand/acknowledge the SC short haul regulations for Hours of Service of drivers within the 100-air mile radius. (12 hours per day, no more than 70 hours per 7 days, or 80 hours in 8 days. Must have minimum of 8 hours off between shifts. Drivers are allowed a one-time exception each week of up to 16 hours in one day. That day must be logged by a paper logbook.)
Position Requirements Job & Physical Requirements
- CDL Class A with minimal violations, valid Medical Card, and Hazmat & Tanker endorsements.
- Minimum 2 years of professional driving experience.
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant EPA and OSHA regulations.
- Fuel Truck Drivers will be exposed to outside elements (heat, cold, water, dust, irritants, etc.) and will be exposed to and work with hazardous materials.
- Ability to read and comprehend gauges and meter readings to meet exacting quantity standards.
- Ability to reach, bend, climb, and sit for long periods of time.
- Must be able to perform truck maintenance, lift approximately 50 pounds, and pull a fuel hose weighing approximately 150 pounds for short distances.
- Must be able to work days, nights, and/or weekends as necessary.
- Must also maintain a clean driving record.
