Role and Responsibilities:
You will perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on diesel-powered waste collection vehicles and heavy equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
- Inspect, service, and repair diesel-powered waste collection vehicles and heavy equipment
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic tools and specialized equipment
- Perform preventive maintenance including oil changes, brake service, and tire repairs
- Repair engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and other vehicle components
- Complete maintenance work orders and maintain accurate service records
- Ensure all vehicles meet DOT safety standards and compliance requirements
- Follow company maintenance schedules, safety procedures, and operational guidelines
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
Required Skills and Experience:
- Experience working with diesel engines and heavy equipment
- Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical and electrical systems
- Knowledge of hydraulic, brake, and drivetrain systems
- Ability to use hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop machinery
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on safety and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
- Understanding of DOT regulations and safety compliance standards
Preferred Qualifications:
- ASE certifications or willingness to obtain certification
- Experience in fleet maintenance or heavy-duty truck repair
- Willingness to work evening or overnight shifts when needed
- Interest in career advancement into lead mechanic or supervisory roles
Compensation and Benefits:
- Hourly pay ranging from $28 to $40 depending on experience and location
