Role and Responsibilities:

You will perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on diesel-powered waste collection vehicles and heavy equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.

  • Inspect, service, and repair diesel-powered waste collection vehicles and heavy equipment
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic tools and specialized equipment
  • Perform preventive maintenance including oil changes, brake service, and tire repairs
  • Repair engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and other vehicle components
  • Complete maintenance work orders and maintain accurate service records
  • Ensure all vehicles meet DOT safety standards and compliance requirements
  • Follow company maintenance schedules, safety procedures, and operational guidelines
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working with diesel engines and heavy equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical and electrical systems
  • Knowledge of hydraulic, brake, and drivetrain systems
  • Ability to use hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop machinery
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on safety and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
  • Understanding of DOT regulations and safety compliance standards

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ASE certifications or willingness to obtain certification
  • Experience in fleet maintenance or heavy-duty truck repair
  • Willingness to work evening or overnight shifts when needed
  • Interest in career advancement into lead mechanic or supervisory roles
